Starter's Guide To Bow Hunting - Preparing For Your First Hunting Trip!
There are a lot of things to know before stepping into the field on your first bow hunting trip. A lot of people come to the sport knowing someone who can teach them the basic guidelines, but others must teach themselves. A lot of research will be necessary and there are some guidelines to know before even stepping into the store to buy your first bow.
Some people buy under the misconception that it is best to have the heaviest bow they can use. This is definitely not the case. It is essential for a bow to feel good in a hunter's hands; otherwise he won't get true shots, or won't use the bow at all due to discomfort. The only time it is good to use the heaviest bow possible is when hunting for big game, such as elk, ox, or bear. A strong bow can also be used in 3-D tournaments when using very fast arrows and a flat trajectory. Otherwise, when hunting whitetail, turkey, and even small black bear, using a compound bow in the 50 pound weight range is the best choice. This size can put an arrow all the way through the target, while still being comfortable for most hunters to handle. The only exception to this is when using recurve bows, in which they require a larger weight. Women usually prefer a bow in the 45 pound range.
The most important factor when choosing a bow is finding one that fits the individual hunter. Bows are not one size fits all, and different types and brands will all fit differently. Be sure that it is comfortable in your hands. It should feel balanced in your grip, and you should be able to pull the bow at it's draw weight comfortably. Many hunters use bows that are too heavy for them; they assume that the bow will either loosen up, or that their muscles will develop more when using it. Using a bow that is too heavy can throw off your shot and ruin your accuracy. Another important thing to do when shopping for a bow is to browse around. A name brand bow isn't always the best choice for every hunter. Choosing a reputable brand with good construction is important but be sure to browse around too. Spend what you can afford, and buy the bow that is best for you.
The last suggestion for newcomers to bow hunting is to shop at an outfitter with an archery expert. An experienced hunter who knows his way around bows is often able to make a good decision, but a newcomer needs some guidance when making his first investment. The archery expert will be your number one resource in regards to buying your first bow.

Experienced Archers and bow hunters I have a question for you?
I've always followed the 5grains arrow weight for every pound of draw weight rule. But I got to thinking last night that IBO speeds are figured at 29in draw length. Since my draw length is 27.5 in., obviously the arrow is not receiving as much energy from the bow string as someone who is shooting the same draw weight but with a 29in. draw length. That being said, do you think it is safe to use an arrow that is less than 5grains per pound of draw weight at 27.5 inches? and if so, how much lighter?

Will supporters be outraged over the arrest of 4 hardworking illegals growing crops for better life?
On Monday, the Garfield County Sheriff?s Office arrested four illegal aliens at a marijuana growing operation, after being spotted by a hunter. Their marijuana crop had a street value of $413,000.
Those arrested were Monica Saldicar, 31, Eleno Angulo, 45, Jesus Ruiz Sepulveda, 51, and Emiliano Arellano, 29, all are Mexican nationals. Sheriff?s deputies also allegedly found a semi-automatic pistol and methamphetamines.
Garfield County Sheriff Danny Perkins told ABC4.com: ?I would like to express my appreciation to the bow hunter that called in the tip that led to the arrests today. He handled it perfectly: he spotted someone that seemed out of place, he didn't confront the individual but quickly left the scene and then immediately after called the Sheriff's office. This is how we would like everyone to handle these kind of sightings. We are still concerned because these grows present a serious public safety issue; these growers have weapons and present a threat to anyone they come in contact with. With hunting season underway we ask everyone who is enjoying the out-of-doors to use caution, and if you spot something or someone that seems out of place, please call the Sheriff's office immediately.?
In addition to using U.S. public lands to smuggle drugs into this nation, the Mexican drug cartels are growing huge amounts of marijuana in our national parks. It is estimated that the cartels produce 30 tons of pot in our parks annually.

A bow-hunter is stalking a buffalo from the top of a cliff (point A). The animal is standing at rest at the ba?
A bow-hunter is stalking a buffalo from the top of a cliff (point A). The animal is standing at rest at the base of the cliff, at point X, on the level ground. The buffalo sees the hunter and begins to run directly away from the cliff, reaching its (constant) maximum speed before passing point B. Exactly Dtrun s after the buffalo passes point B, the hunter shoots an arrow and hits the animal.
The arrow?s initial path is directed at an angle q below the horizontal.
The arrow?s complete flight, from release to hitting the animal, takes Dtarrow s.
The horizontal distance between points A and B is xAB m.
The vertical distance between points A and B is yAB m.
Ignore the heights of the buffalo and the hunter.
Find the buffalo?s maximum speed (the speed it was running when it was hit).
Keep in mind that you may consider these values as known: Dtrun, q, Dtarrow, xAB, yAB, g.
