How To Get The Most From Your Elk Hunting Trips

When the offer comes to take an elk hunting trip with some hunting buddies, it won't take but a second to decide if you are going! Hunting elk is all about enjoying the outdoors, by not only harvesting a great big 'ol bull elk but also enjoying the natural surroundings of it's habitat.

Imagine if you will, sitting against an old maple tree, looking down into the valley with snow-covered mountains in the background. The natural hidden-forest meadow that only you know about (or probably more realistically), you think that only you know about, is the reality of every elk hunting trip manifested in the continental United States and even parts of Canada.

There are new and exciting elk hunting trips that can be had from many great outfitters found mostly in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Hunting for a majestic elk will not always be a successful foray, however if you are utilizing the services of an outfitter, your chances of success have increased greatly.

Make sure you do enlist the services of a great elk hunting outfitter as these gentlemen and some gentle ladies offer the best opportunities and resources for elk hunting trips. Communicate your needs and desires with your outfitter. This will increase your level of satisfaction with your hunt and determine what's expected of each and every person in the elk hunting party.

You can start your research by looking online and comparing outfitters and hunting packages. Most packages will include food, lodging (though it may only be a tent), your elk tag as well as hauling and processing of your harvested game. Most outfitters also offer, "do it yourself" packages. As the name denotes, you are responsible for just about every aspect of the hunt. However, if you are going to pay an outfitter to have the opportunity to hunt an elk, why not take advantage of all their services. It will definitely cost more, but it will undoubtedly add to the wonderful memories you will have of your hunt.

Some of the best stories of elk hunting trips come from Northwestern Oregon and Washington in the United States and in the Saskatchewan in Canada. These stories all culminate with a great duel with one of nature's most powerful and precious natural resources, the bull elk of North America. Known for environmental-beauty and wonders beyond imagination these areas of North America are home to a large population of bull elk.

If you decide to head out on your own elk hunting trip without the use of an outfitter, make sure you get a copy of the game laws for the state and region that you're hunting. Speak with the locals if you are heading to an area of the country you are not completely familiar with. Be sure to plan in time for some scouting. As always, be sure you have permission to hunt on private land and remember that "fair chase" is the only way to hunt.

The best approach to make any elk hunting trip the best possible experience is to educate yourself on the habitat and terrain and the other aspects of hunting this wonderful creature that is bull elk and be sure that you share the experience with family or friends.

How do I put a curse on someone's elk hunt?
Some guys at work all got together and put in for next years elk bow hunt draw. They all know I am a sportsman and didn't mention it to me. I know I'm being a B about this, but man am I chapped. I guess I don't really want to put a curse on these guys, but wouldn't mind doing something to at least eat my sour grapes. Son of a ..... By the way the draw deadline is closed, so I can't do my own draw or I think I would just so that I could be happy for these guys if they draw out and all get elks:( Thanks paget. I thought of that, but I only do public land hunts, so it is hard to show people up without putting a lot of time in. I think that sort of thing costs money too, but if your doing charity work for poor lost souls, I'll give it a try. To the rest of you guys, way to kick a guy when he's down. I realize that I am not wanted on the hunt, that's what hurts. I just learned that the deadline has not yet passed. I guess I should thank these guys for making me realize how much I want to go and hunt these majestic animals. I'm going to put in. If I get drawn I will go with my dad.
