Be Sure You Choose The Best Black Bear Hunting Outfitter For Your Hunt
The is certainly is no shortage of black bear outfitters to choose from due to the popularity of black bear hunting. For this reason it's most important that you do your homework if you expect a bear hunt to remember for all the right reasons.
It's your hard earned money so take your time and know what you should be asking because you can be sure that not all outfitters are equal. Know what to expect from the hunting adventure you order.
Here is a list that should answer some important questions that you may not think of when planning a black bear hunt. Be sure you study it and I wish you the best hunt of your life.
- How many hunters per guide and how many non-hunters are allowed?
- How many persons per room? AND get pictures of the accommodations or at least a good description.
- I like to know what the outfitter is going to be feeding during my trip. I have one special place that feeds me lobster and steak, that along with a great hunting experience brings me back.
- Bear hunting can be a dirty job. Be sure you know if there is a laundry facilities.
- Know the arrival and departure times along with the location of pickup. It might be at the airport or you may need to rent a vehicle to get there. Don't leave it until the last minute to work out these details.
- How many un-hunted active black bear bait sites are there per hunter? If I don't like the site I am on can I change locations?
- Get a good description of their tree stand set up and bait sites although pictures would be better.
- Do they provide transportation to and from the bait sites?
- What are the hunting departure and pick-up times and how long after dark is the last hunter picked up?
- For us early birds is there a morning black bear hunt offered?
- Will the outfitter be on the premises all week?
- Is the outfitter accommodations licensed?
- How many hunters per guide and per vehicle on departure to the site?
- If I harvest my black bear early in the week what type of recreation are available? (ie: fishing, other hunts, near by towns or cities, etc…)
- What type of practice range do you offer for both bow & rifle?
- If my weapon malfunctions, is there a local archery or rifle shop near by?
- Once I have harvested my black bear, where will it be registered?
Who will skin and cut the meat?
Is there a freezer on site?
Is there a local taxidermist and do they provide a price list? - References from both successful & non-successful black bear hunters?
- Are there any additional fees?
All of the above questions take time to be answered, but the right black bear outfitter should be glad to supply you with any or all of those answers. Once you have found an outfitter you feel happy and comfortable with, it is time to start preparing for your black bear hunting trip.
What You Can Do To Better Prepare For Your Black Bear Hunting Adventure
You want to be as prepared as you can be so you don't have any negative surprises on your bear hunt. Be sure to have the outfitter send you a list of important things to take along for your weeks stay. Here are a few examples of items that I believe have made for better hunting experiences over the years:
- Passport and proper identification for border officials. I was turned back home one year because I didn't have my papers in order and it bummed me out for about a year.
- Bug Suit (if hunting during bug season) It's always better to have it with you that wish you did.
- Two-way Radios are a great safety feature.
- Weather can change in just minutes so it's best to bring clothes for all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, etc…)
- Snack food items and garbage bags
- Camera - A picture is worth a thousand words and are much better to share than just your success story alone.
- Compact foldable soft weapon cases
- Cooler & Meat Bags
- Knife & Tool Kit
- Non-scented soaps, shampoos, etc…
There is one final very important note to mention. Have your outfitter send you a non-resident firearm declaration for you to prepare in advance. They take about 20 minutes to fill out at home, but will save you time with custom and border officials. Remember that all rifles will need to be removed from their respected cases, so don't have them buried under your luggage and hunting gear.

Guns: the worst invention in the world?
who's with me? name one positive thing that came out of the invention of guns. i bet you'd be hard pressed to find one. and dont say hunting because hunting with bows and arrows works just as well as guns.
it may be up to the person, but if they used someother weopon i do not believe we would have one person gun down 32 others. do you know how hard it would be to kill that many people with a knife or club? guns also give people, including children, easy access to extremely deadly weopons. and for whoever said the end of fascism: fascism wouldn't have ever suceeded in the first place without guns! all they do is kill people. how did we win over the united states? by slaughtering the native people. why do we need guns for protection? because other people have guns. if no one had guns you wouldnt need them for protection. and as for military? without guns wars would be fought the old fashioned way, in a couple of months with a few thousand dead. not dragged out for years killing millions of people!
Guns aren't dangerous, people are? is a six year old boy dangerous? a six year old boy shot his classmate with his fathers gun ( which he kept for protection) and killed her. was he completly to blame? should he be locked away forever? i do not think so. if that gun did not exist, that little girl would still be alive. im not saying that peole cannot or will not kill with other things. im saying that guns are much to accesible and make it much to easy to end the life of someone else. if someone walked into a bank to rob it with a knife or bow and arrow, do you think he would be able to kill 20 people before he was stopped? i dont think so.
im not totaly defensless.the only thing i would B defensless against would be,hm let me think...oh, duh,a gun! if someone attacked me with a knife or something else,guess what? they manufacture mace, pocket knifes, tazers, and a whole list of not deadly things i could protect myself against. medical tools and other things may have been based on the gun, but they would have come about and figured out eventually without the gun anyway. you all keep repeating the same thing "we need them to protect ourselves" from what? creeps and weirdos and attackers, you say. and what would they be attacking with where you couldnt defend yourselves using some other method? a gun! people have defended themselves from wild animals with guns then good for them, but just as many wild animal attacks have been stopped without the use of guns! according to you people i guess the world is a better place having scores of people shot everyday because a few people have killed an animal. how does that logic work ?

Are you a hunter?
my brother likes to hunt, with bow and arrow which is respectable. i do like to eat meat, i understand the whole circle of life and natural selection philosophy, but i, personally could not kill a live animal. he does make a good point being that he lives in florida. he is going to teach his kids to hunt so that they will not be standing outside of the newly looted wal-mart after the next hurricane saying "what do we do now?"

i always picture native americans hunting with bow and arrows but i know they came over through alaksa very long ago and I think it is weird since i can't see the bow and arrow being use theat long ago

Gift Exchange Ideas?
I am stumped on what to get the person I drew this year. It is a cousin that I haven't seen in 5 years or so. (large family with lots of folks traveling and this year the whole group is coming in that means lots of new people to shop for. Anyways he is in his 30's (I think). Far as I can tell he perfers the simple stuff in life (no mp3 or stuff like that). THE RULES CLEARLY STATE NO GIFT CARDS. The limit is 25-30 dollars. This is what his card says----hunts with bow and arrow, outdoor person, loves country music, large in shirts, favorite animal is horses (i think he has a small horse ranch or a farm with like 30 horses)
