Gun Cabinets And Gun Storage

More and more people are purchasing fire arms, many for protection, some for traditional hunting, and some for recreational gun shooting. Whatever the purpose is, owners must need to keep these risky objects inside a safe and secured gun cabinet.

The question is what kind of gun storage is ideal for you? This depends on a lot of factor. If you are basically living alone, and prefer to see your rifle or shotgun collection at home, then go and invest in a gun display cabinet with glass windows. Make sure though that it is always locked all the time and equipped with a reliable locking mechanism in order to avoid theft.

If you're a family man, it goes without saying that you must keep your collection in your private room, and in a place where nobody else knows. In this situation, it is better to invest in a gun safe. Compared to cabinet, a gun safe is made of durable metal that resists easy opening, not mentioning that its locking mechanism is very tough. A secret gun safe keeps the firearms from being taken out by the kids or strangers who might break into the house.

The best gun cabinet furniture can be identified through a certification from the Underwriter's Laboratory or UL, an official body that tests the strength and durability of safes in the United States. UL evaluates the quality of gun safes and provides a rating called Residential Security Container. If a safe is stamped with an RSC rating it means that it is highly secured and can open and close thousands of times without screwing up.

Owning a gun, it is true, is a constitutional right. This right however should not be abused and must be accompanied by responsibility. Keeping these weapons from people who might mishandle them is a task of every gun owner.

Are cats smarter than dogs?
Just to add to the discussion a few days ago on this, it's true there are no seeing eye cats or herding cats (very funny comment), but I would argue the reason is b/c dogs were domesticated 12,000 yrs ago while cats only became pets about 1,500 yrs back. There's been a lot more time for humans to select and breed dogs that have traits we like, such as the ability to follow stupid commands. Cats are much closer to wild animals (hence all the mouse hunting and energy during traditional hunting hours.) That is also why cats sleep so much. They're not lazy. In the wild, cats need up to 16hrs/day os sleep to have the strength to hunt, this instinct has yet to be bred out of cats. Also, cats can be trained, but few people believe this and it's not necessary since theyre pretty self-sufficient, so we rarely take the time. I've seen cats that fetch, sit, give paws, walk on leashes and even one who scuba dives!

Why is it legal to "hunt" captive animals, while bear baiting and rooster fighting are illegal?
First of all, let's clarify my position: I support traditional hunting and fishing, and champion the concept of sportsmanship and stewardship of natural resources. I enjoy eating meat, and appreciate ecology and the natural beauty of fauna. Traditional hunting has many beneficial aspects. Private hunting reserves - game ranches - deer farms: these are commercial sites where "hunters" pay to kill captive animals. Presumably the outcome is guaranteed by the proprietors. A fighting cock has a chance to survive. A captive bear has a chance to kill one of its attackers. These barbaric "sports" have been outlawed for centuries in most places. What could be the motive to "hunt" captive animals, other than the joy of seeing something die? Do you think of someone as more manly who kills captive animals on hunting ranches? Am I missing some redeeming aspect of this activity? Maybe by releasing their agression on an animal, they avoid doing so on a fellow human? Or does it stimulate it? Sorry - Yahoo has chosen to edit my traditional term for the male rooster and replace it with askerisks. It wasn't my choice to spell it this way. Interesting point, "Mass brain". Maybe we should start a discussion on the morality of the situation depicted in the movie "The Running Man", with politicians or lawyers instead of criminals as the targets... There are some parallels. Good answer there, "DamDawg". I guess it all hinges on the definition of "shooting fish in a barrel" and how you define it. I haven't researched this too much, but my understanding is that most of these private reserves are pretty close to what you are describing here. Do you have any data to share? I have seen some video footage of bow-and-arrow "hunters" shooting deer in a manner that looked very cruel and very much like "shooting fish in a barrel". I think that, if the proprietor guarantees the outcome, then it is more likely to be unsporting. Hey There Wazant1 - You too have some interesting points. If you are a traditional hunter, I respect that, as I previously stated. You discussed the increasing efficiency of hunting techniques. I wonder how much something is a "sport" when the outcome is guaranteed. Why is it fun to shoot an animal under controlled conditions but not at a slaughterhouse? How close do the two facilities need to become before we cross the line? Have you heard about the internet game preserves, where you can kill an animal from the internet, via robotically controlled rifle? Has that crossed the line?

As soon as the sun goes down, they just disappear from their traditional hunting grounds such as dog pooh. They must go somewhere, I mean, surely they don't go out clubbing.
